These steps by Russia are sad and could even be laughed at as ridiculous were they not so dangerous for the West and Russia. In the West we are sleepwalking towards something nasty and we need to wake up. Thank you Paul for writing objectively about these events. I hope that a wider audience sees your work.

Can anybody tell me when "the great patriotic war" started? Was it when Hitler and Stalin divided Poland in 1939? Or was it when the USSR attacked Finland (sorry, defended Leningrad against the Finns) later in 1939?

The Kremlin needs to produce a version of recent history that, like the holy scriptures of the great faiths, has to be adhered to on the pain of being stoned to death or burned at the stake. Otherwise, how is a historian to deal with the problem of the USSR being a member of the Hitlerite coalition at the beginning of World War II and a member of the anti-Hitlerite coalition a few years later.
