many thanks to the author for such an insight into Russia's social threats, but i must agree that this is something that Latvian society should be afraid of as well. We have more than enough criminals form 1990's getting released from prisons in the right time - economical crises - the same time they were put in prisons. i bet for them it would seem that for some reason time stopped and they're back were they started - a time of crises as an opportunity to cheat, rub and worst of all - murder for money, real estate or power. Latvia's society is threatened not only by Latvian convicts but as well Russian zecs - what if they don't have a place among already well build gangs in Russia or they are sick of Russia...were do you think they'll go? to their beloved Jūrmala or Riga that they always dreamed of visiting...

I just wanted to thank the author for regularly delivering interesting information about the contemporary political and social tendencies in Russia. Keep up the good work!

That's their fate - to live not like a nation of humans should but to exist in a state of terror and fear caused either by criminal compatriots or by corrupt state officials. That's how I see it.

Russians care. And we too should care, as increase of violent crime in Russia may echo in LV as well.

Who cares about russian criminals being released? We have a bunch of corrupted politicians at wheel of power in the middle of crisis.

here we see typical Soviet style of discussion: any criticism is answered by switching the theme, like in the old story: - Can a Soviet engineer buy a car? - BUT AMERICANS FIGHT A WAR IN VIETNAM!!! There are no reports on violent Latvian criminals getting released, but it does not matter. As Dr. Goebbels said, if you tell lies, they should be unlimited and forget about the reality.
